Putin's visit to China in September to be good opportunity for signing deal on gas shipment via western route - Kremlin spokesman

MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax) - If Moscow and Beijing decide to sign an agreement on shipments of Russian natural gas to China via the western route, Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to China in September would be a good opportunity for signing the document, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"If it's ready, the visit will certainly be a good opportunity for concluding this transaction," Peskov told journalists in commenting on Energy Minister Alexander Novak's statement that the ministry expected that an agreement with China on shipping gas to the country via the western route would be concluded during negotiations between the two leaders in September.

At the same time, Peskov said, "As you know, [the conclusion of agreements] is never timed to coincide with visits. If it's possible to reach agreements, then, naturally, visits are used as a forum for signature."

"Therefore, if the work is finalized, the signature is quite likely to take place," he said.
