EBRD hopes new confinement at Chernobyl NPP will be erected by end 2017
KYIV. July 31 (Interfax) - France's Novarka, the general contractor under the project for the new safe confinement (NSC) at the site of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, finalized works on interconnecting the western and eastern 'arches' of the NSC, the EBRD press service said in a statement.
"Works are in progress on fixing of approximately one million of bolts to hold the two halves together," the statements said. .
The EBRD said it found that the works were being completed as scheduled, and that the erection of the NSC would be possible to finalize by the end of 2017.
It was earlier reported that the new safe confinement would be shaped as an arch (height: 110m, length: 165m, and width; 260m).
