Mayor of Tallinn gets back to work after six months treatment

TALLINN. Aug 5 (Interfax) - The Mayor of Tallinn and the chairman of the country's largest opposition party - The Estonian Centre Party - Edgar Savisaar got back to work on Wednesday after a serious illness that took him six months to recover from.

For the first time in half a year he attended the meeting of the administrative board of the Estonian capital city.

The mayor's press service told Interfax that Savisaar had his medical leave formally finished on Wednesday. After the meeting at the administrative board, he was also presiding at the main meeting of the city government that reviewed 19 agenda items.

Savisaar who is 64-years old had his leg amputated on March, 23. That was the second surgery he underwent recently. The first one was done when he was hospitalized on March 18 after returning from a visit to Bangkok. Back then his condition was declared as critical. Doctors said that due to a cut on his leg Savisaar was exposed to Streptococcus infection and then toxic shock syndrome developed.
