Iran nuclear deal was essential for entire region, will not harm neighbors - Iranian foreign minister

MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax) - The achievement of a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear program between Tehran and the P5+1 group of world powers has put an end to unwarranted tension in the region, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

"The agreement in Vienna was the necessary beginning for the region, and not only does it not harm our neighbors in any way, but it is also an achievement for the entire region, because it has put an end to unwarranted tension that has lasted for twelve years and threatened primarily our region," Zarif said in an article provided to Interfax by the Iranian embassy to Russia on Thursday.

"The time has come to start more important things, with priority given to a search for ways to help Iran and other countries of the region to eliminate the factors causing mistrust and tension in the region," he said.

"Good and firm relations with neighbors" are a priority of Iran's foreign policy, he said.

"My regional visit to three neighboring countries, including Kuwait, Qatar, and Iraq, immediately after Iran concluded a historic agreement on nuclear issues with the five permanent UN Security Council members and Germany in Vienna, confirms this strategy in Iran's foreign policy," he said.
