DPR: Starohnativka clash report by Kyiv confirms hostilities are conducted by Ukrainian army

MOSCOW. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Kyiv's report of the seizure of strategic heights in Donetsk proves that the hostilities are being conducted by the Ukrainian army rather than the militia, the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has said.

"Kyiv is accusing us of launching an offensive and, at the same time, is reporting the seizure of strategic heights. Who is really on the offensive?" Eduard Basurin, a senior official of the DPR Defense Ministry, told Interfax.

He agreed that the terrain was hilly in the Donetsk region and featured some high-ground positions. "There is a reason why it is called the Donetsk chain of hills, there are hills and heights here," he said.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said earlier that the army had launched a counter-offensive and seized key heights previously controlled by the militia near the village of Starohnativka in the Volnovakha district of the Donetsk region in the early hours of Monday.
