Ukraine unable for now to increase energy supplies in compliance with Poland's request - Energy Minister

KYIV. Aug 12 (Interfax) - So far, Ukraine cannot increase electricity deliveries to Poland to cover its power shortages related to abnormal heat and growing electricity consumption, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said at a Wednesday Cabinet session.

"Right now we cannot help them," he said.

The minister said that several power units of the Burshtyn power plant are under repairs ahead of the winter heating season, the same as at the Dobrotvor power plant.

He said that presently Ukraine exports 600 MWt of electricity to Poland, while the Polish side has asked to increase deliveries by 200-400 MWt.

The Ukrainian Energy and Coal Ministry is not considering the introduction of restrictions on power consumption in relation to the heat.

Demchyshyn said that due to hot air temperatures, Poland has restricted power supplies to industrial facilities to the technological minimum.

"We still bear it," he said.
