Moscow city court upholds extension of Polonsky's arrest
MOSCOW. Aug 12 (Interfax) - The Moscow city court has recognized the lawfulness of the arrest of businessman Sergei Polonsky, charged with defrauding investors in elite residential construction of 5.7 billion rubles.
An Interfax correspondent reports that the appellate instance on Wednesday declined the protest of the businessman's defense.
On July 17, Moscow's Tverskoi district court complied with a motion from the investigation to prolong Polonsky's arrest until October 11 and declined the motion of the defense to place the defendant under house arrest.
On June 14, 2013, when he was staying in Cambodia, Polonsky was charged in absentia in Russia in a case of fraud in elite residential construction. According to investigators, Polonsky embezzled over 5.7 billion rubles from participants in the shared construction of the Kutuzovskaya Milya residential complex. Over 80 people were recognized as parties affected by the businessman's actions. On May 2015 Polonsky was deported from Cambodia to Russia.
