Head of National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces states intention to fight terrorism in Syria

MOSCOW. Aug 13 (Interfax) - Khaled Khoja, the leader of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, said in Moscow on Thursday that the positions of the parties to the conflict in Syria should become closer in order to fight terrorism in Syria and reach an agreement on settlement in the country.

"We are the first to fight terrorism, we have done it and we continue doing it because our positions should become closer in a comprehensive way to fight terrorism and achieve stability in the country," Khaled Khoja said while opening negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

He said that the purpose of the visit was to explain the position of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces on Syrian settlement.

"We as representatives of the revolutionary forces and the people of Syria and the Syrian opposition have arrived today to explain the position of the National Coalition on the transition period in Syria," Khaled Khoja said.

He said the National Coalition "fully agrees that it is necessary to preserve Syrian statehood and state institutions in the country."

"We have agreed that the transition period should be in line with all principles of the Geneva communique and be based on the consent of all sides as regards the transitional administrative body," Khoja said.

Khoja said that it is important for the National Coalition to keep good relations with Russia and that the meeting with Russian Foreign Ministry officials before the meeting in Moscow was "very useful."
