Ukrainian rescuers keep fighting Chernobyl wildfire

KYIV. Aug 14 (Interfax) - The wildfire raging between the villages of Buda Varovychy and Kovshylivka in the exclusion and mandatory resettlement zone of the Chernobyl Pushcha forestry area is still being extinguished, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine has said.

"The situation was under control as of 7 a.m. on August. The firefighting operation continues round-the-clock," it said.

The fire is being fought by 139 men, 30 fire engines, a Eurocopter aerial surveillance helicopter and a Mil Mi-8 firefighting helicopter which has performed seven water dumps.
