Ukrainian judge's chauffeur dies three weeks after car crash

POLTAVA. Aug14 (Interfax) - The chauffeur of Ukrainian Constitutional Court President Yuri Baulin died at Sklifosovsky Clinical Hospital in the Poltava region in the early hours of Thursday.

"Tests are due to be carried out to establish the person responsible for the car crash. If the chauffer who died in hospital is proved to be responsible, the case will be closed due to his death," a regional police spokesperson told reporters.

The hospital declined to disclose details, citing medical secrecy.

Baulin himself has now been moved from the Poltava hospital to one in Kyiv. A 12-year-old girl who survived in the crash is also being treated in the capital.

The accident occurred at around 8 p.m. on July 26, on the 320th kilometer of the Kyiv-Kharkiv highway in the Poltava Region, when a Toyota Camry, in which Baulin was traveling, veered into the oncoming lane of traffic at high speed, colliding with a Nissan which carried a family of four and killing three of them.

After the crash Baulin was taken to Sklifosovsky Hospital with multiple internal organ injuries and a head injury.

A criminal inquiry has been launched into the crash on charges of "violation of road safety or driving rules resulting in two or more deaths." The preliminary inquiry continues.
