Ringleader killed in Dagestan - source

MAKHACHKALA. Aug 17 (Interfax) - The so-called 'amir of the highland sector' has been killed in a police operation in the Untsukul district, a representative of Dagestani law enforcement authorities told Interfax on Monday.

"The dead man has been identified as the so-called 'amir of the highland sector' Magomed Abdullayev born in 1986. The police operation goes on," the source said.

The antiterrorism operation in the Untsukul district began on August 10. Four militants, among them the so-called 'amir of the Caucasus Emirate' Magomed Suleymanov and 'amir of the Dagestan vilayat' Tamil Saidov were killed in a clash on that day.

The police clashed with the remaining members of the gang near Gyumry on Sunday.
