Toyota restarts production at St. Petersburg plant after summer holiday
ST. PETERSBURG. Aug 18 (Interfax) - The Toyota plant in St. Petersburg restarted its assembly line on Monday following its usual company summer vacation.
The plant was on summer vacation from August 3, 2015, the company's Russian division told Interfax.
Toyota's Russian plant opened at the end of December 2007 in St. Petersburg at a cost of 6.8 billion rubles. The plant doubled capacity from 50,000 to 100,000 vehicles per year in 2014, and launched a body parts stamping shop and plastic parts production shop. The expansion cost 2.7 billion rubles.
The plant currently assembles the Toyota Camry sedan, and plans to start producing the Toyota RAV SUV in 2016. The plant will hire another 800 people to produce the new model, bringing its workforce up to 2,650.
