Oboronservice case suspect Smetanova to go on trial soon - source

MOSCOW. Aug 18 (Interfax) - Yekaterina Smetanova, one of the key suspects in the Oboronservice case who has reached a plea bargain and is now under state protection, will soon go on trial, a source familiar with the situation told Interfax on Tuesday.

"The investigation against Smetanova has almost been completed. She will be put on trial roughly in one month's time," he said.

She is expected to receive the most lenient sentence among all other persons charged as part of this high-profile corruption inquiry, he said.

"It was the confession given by Smetanova and another suspect, Dinara Bilyalova, that allowed the investigation and state prosecution to secure the evidence proving the guilt of the defendants in this case," the source said.
