Court softens by two months punishment of Yegorova implicated in Oboronservice case, leaves other sentences unchanged
MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax) - The Moscow City Court has reduced by two months the punishment given to Irina Yegorova, who was previously sentenced to four years in prison in the Oboronservice case, an Interfax correspondent has reported, citing a decision made by the appeals collegium on criminal cases of the Moscow City Court, which was read on Friday.
The sentences given to the other people implicated in the case were left unchanged.
According to the decision, the court removed from the charges against Yegorova the qualification of "abuse of office". This means that her prison term will thus be three years and ten months.
The sentence handed down by the Moscow Presnensky Court, including to Yevgenia Vasilyeva, the key suspect implicated in the case, has now taken legal effect.
On May 8, Moscow's Presnensky Court handed down prison terms to the defendants in the Oboronservice case.
Former Defense Ministry official Yevgenia Vasilyeva was sentenced to five years in a standard-security penitentiary after being found guilty of massive fraud (a crime enshrined by Article 159 of the Russian Criminal Code), money laundering (Article 174 of the Russian Criminal Code) and abuse of office (Article 201 of the Russian Criminal Code).
Her suspected partners in crime received shorter prison terms. Larisa Yegorina was sentenced to four years and three months, Irina Yegorova to four years, Yury Grekhnev to four years and Maxim Zakutailov to three years and six months in a standard-security penitentiary.
It was reported on July 31 that Vasilyeva had withdrawn her appeal against the sentence and had been transferred to a penal colony. The regional department of the Federal Penitentiary Service said the former official was located in Penal Colony 1 in the village of Golovino, Vladimir region.
The information on Vasilyeva's whereabouts sparked heated debate due to media reports published in early August stating that Vasilyeva had allegedly been sighted taking a stroll in central Moscow.
The Sudogorodsky District Court in the Vladimir region scheduled a hearing of her parole request for August 25.
