No alternative to Minsk agreement - Poroshenko

KYIV. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says there is no alternative to the peace settlement plan in the eastern part of the country.

"There is no alternative to the peace process in Ukraine, the same as now there is no alternative to the Minsk agreements supported by the UN Security Council, a decision of the European Union Council and a decision of all member countries of our pro-Ukrainian coalition," the head of state said on Independence Square on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of Ukrainian independence.

The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) does not believe the statements by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

"This statement is made for the Western public. Indeed, he cannot openly admit that Kyiv intends to resolve the Donbas problem by force. We have no faith in his statement because there is nothing behind his words," DPR People's Council Speaker Andrei Purgin told Interfax.

In his words, the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics stick to the Minsk agreements. "In contrast to Kyiv, we are honoring the Minsk deal," he said.
