Russian and Chinese forces holding anti-terror operation as part of joint drills in Primorye

VLADIVOSTOK. Aug 25 (Interfax) - Forces taking part in the Joint Sea-2015 (II) Russian-Chinese maneuvers, currently under way in Russia's Primorye territory, are neutralizing imaginary terrorists who have 'seized' the coast, Russian Pacific Fleet spokesman Captain 1st Rank Roman Martov told Interfax.

"A joint Russian-Chinese anti-terrorist operation has begun on the coast. The forces participating in the exercises are liberating the coast seized by imaginary terrorists. The aim of the landing operation is to create a corridor to evacuate civilians from the area of the anti-terrorist operation," Martov said.

Amphibious warfare ships landed two assault echelons on the shore; Russian marines disembarked as well. A battle ensued on the shore.

"Efforts are under way to create a corridor to free the shore from mock terrorists and create conditions for the evacuation of civilians. These drills pose no threat to any country and are humanitarian," Martov said.

It was reported that the Russian-Chinese exercise involves both sides contributing 22 ships and support vessels, up to 20 planes and helicopters, over 500 marines and 40 pieces of equipment.

Since August 23, when the active phase of the exercise began, the joint squads have executed more than ten combat-training tasks.
