Iran may use access to LEU bank in Kazakhstan - IAEA head
ASTANA. Aug 27 (Interfax) - The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) international low-enriched uranium (LEU) bank in Kazakhstan may store Iran's uranium.
There are questions concerning the attitude to and the general understanding of the LEU by Iran, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano told a press conference in Kazakhstan's capital Astana on Thursday.
As far as the action plan is concerned, an agreement has been reached that Iran may use access to the IAEA's LEU bank, he said.
The IAEA has a country agreement and will have to make certain efforts in order to launch and complete all the remaining work within the next two years, Amano said.
Amano also noted that deliveries of nuclear material for the bank would be conducted in compliance with IAEA standards.
It will depend on future activities, where the IAEA will purchase LEU, he said. But all steps will be taken in line with IAEA standards and through an open tender, he added.
