Poroshenko expects EU to continue sanction pressure on Russia

KYIV. Aug 27 (Interfax) - Ukraine expects the European Union to extend personal sanctions against a number of Russian individuals in light of the escalation of tensions in Donbas, says Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

"In order to answer the aggressor appropriately we should preserve unity including as regards to the continued sanction pressure on Russia, to prompt it to sit at the negotiating table and implement the obligations that it undertook in Minsk," Poroshenko said at a joint press conference with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels on Thursday.

Ukraine expects the EU in the near future "to make a decision on extending the personal sanctions in relation to the individuals responsible for violating Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, including Crimea's annexation and the aggression in Donbas," he said.
