Tashkent, Bishkek to adjust agreement on border checkpoints

TASHKENT. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Experts appointed by the governments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have finalized their negotiations in Tashkent, says a report posted on the Uzbek Foreign Ministry website on Friday.

"The sides discussed adjustments and additions to the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic on Border Checkpoints dated July 24, 2004," the report said.

A final protocol was signed at the end of the negotiations.

Kyrgyz delegation head, Ambassador at Large of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry Batyrkan Syrgabaev was received at the Uzbek Foreign Ministry during the course of the negotiations.

"The sides exchanged opinions on bilateral cooperation issues," the ministry said in the report.

The border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan is 1,378 kilometers long, and over 300 kilometers and approximately 50 sections of the border have yet to be delimited.

There is an Uzbek exclave in Kyrgyzstan, Sukh, comprising of 19 populated localities across an area exceeding 350 kilometers. The Kyrgyz village of Barak is located in Uzbekistan.
