Two Donetsk residents killed in shelling

DONETSK. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Donetsk authorities have reported two fatalities in shelling in the Donetsk Petrovskyi district.

"Two people were killed in Donetsk today. The Petrovskyi district was shelled from the side of Maryinka last night," Donetsk Mayor Igor Martynov told reporters on Friday.

He said the resettlement of Donetsk residents from endangered territories continued.

"This is an ongoing process. We have already resettled about 1,500 Donetsk residents from endangered areas. We have 13 tenants left in the Vtoraya Ploshchadka community and they bluntly refuse to evacuate. We will help them as much as we can," he said.

About ten schools will not open in Donetsk on September 1: these are schools that are still being repaired or are located close to the frontline, he said.

"About ten schools will not open in Donetsk frontline areas, the Kirovskyi, Petrovskyi, Kuibyshevskyi and Kyivskyi districts," Martynov said.

In turn, the army operation press center wrote on Facebook on Friday that the militia allegedly conducted 109 attacks on Ukrainian positions in Donbas on Thursday.

"Fifteen times by use of artillery, 34 by use of mortars and once by use of BM-21 Grad rocket launchers," the press center said in its morning report.

According to the army, tensions escalated most in the Mariupol area on Thursday evening and later on.

The militia attacked Opytne and Avdiivka near Donetsk from almost 10 p.m. till midnight.

Ukrainian positions near Stary Aidar, Trekhizbenka and Stanytsia Luhanska in the Luhansk region came under mortar fire in the evening, the press center said.
