Fire at Ulyanovsk remand center kills four - source

MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - Four inmates were killed and another five were injured in a fire that broke out in a cell of Remand Facility No. 1 in the Russian city of Ulyanovsk, a source in emergency services told Interfax.

"The preliminary information available indicates that a fire erupted in one of the cells of the pre-trial detention center. Four people were killed and another five were injured as a result of the blaze," he said.

Emergency services have blamed either faulty electrical wiring or an inmate's clothes catching fire for the incident, he said.

The latest reports suggest that the fire has already been extinguished.
