Reason for halt of trading on Moscow Exchange was unstable work of main server

MOSCOW. Sept 2 (Interfax) - The reason for the halt of trading on the stock market of the Moscow Exchange on Tuesday, September 1, was the unstable operation of the main server for the market's trading and clearing system, which required a switch to a back-up server, the exchange said.

"The reason for the unusual situation was the unstable operation of the hardware of the main server of the stock market's trading and clearing system, and for the normal continuation of trading, it was necessary to halt trading and switch to the back-up server manually. The re-launch of the system took 36 minutes. According to regulations, in the event of server problems, a mechanism is envisaged for the automatic switch to the back-up equipment without a halt in trading. Today, however, the instability of the operations of server did not permit the system to reliably determine its state in order to make the correct decisions on the automatic switch to the back-up components, and so it was necessary to do this manually," the exchange said in a statement.

The Moscow Exchange is establishing the reasons for the non-standard behavior of the server.

On Tuesday at 2:59 p.m. Moscow time, trading was stopped on the stock market on the Main Market, trading resumed at 3:55 p.m. Moscow time, the system was accessible for removing applications at 3:35 p.m. Moscow time.
