Armenian president holds notional meeting of National Security Council at command staff drills

YEREVAN. Sept 3 (Interfax) - Armenian President and Chairman of the National Security Council Serzh Sargsyan convened a national meeting of the National Security Council on Thursday evening during the Shant 2015 (Lightning 2015) strategic command staff drills.

According to the scenario of the war games, Sargsyan has discussed the situation emerging around Armenia, the presidential press service said. Reports and proposals corresponding to the scenario were delivered and instructions were given to specific state structures.

The Armenian president noted the importance of exercises in terms of checking the level of preparedness and readiness of state authorities to act urgently and effectively in concrete situations.

The Shant-2015 national strategic command staff drills are under way in Armenia from September 3 to 6.

The republican Defense Ministry said that the drills were scheduled and sought to improve the mobilization readiness of authorities and military command, to raise the level of interaction and coordination of actions when preparing for defense and rebuffing aggression.

"Taking into account the military and political situation emerging around Armenia and neighboring territories, a simulated enemy and situation according to the scenario of the drills are brought into maximum compliance with reality," the Defense Ministry press service said.

The military exercises are being held on the orders and under the command of the republican president.
