Agreement with Pakistan on North South pipeline could be signed in end of September - Novak

MOSCOW. Sept 4 (Interfax) - An intergovernmental agreement with Pakistan for building the North South pipeline could be signed in the end of September, Energy Minister Alexander Novak said in an interview with the Russia Today TV channel.

"The agreement is ready for signing, and I have a trip coming very soon in order to sign the agreement to build the pipeline. I think that it will be in the end of September," he said.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev approved the intergovernmental agreement project between Russia and Pakistan on cooperation for building the North South gas pipeline in Pakistan from Karachi to Lahore for signing.

During implementation the project provides for the maximum use of technologies, materials, equipment and products produced in Russia, and the involvement of Russian research, designs and construction organizations.

The Pakistani side is providing for the granting of rights to use the land required for the project and the implementation of research and works related to determining the North South pipeline route.

The agreement is valid for 25 years and provides for the possibility of automatic renewal for five-year periods.
