Russian watchdog finds foreign DNA in canned meat from Serbia

MOSCOW. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Russia's Federal Veterinary and Phyto-Sanitary Oversight Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) has found indications of falsification in a shipment of canned poultry products from Serbian company Carnex (No. 64).

Lab tests found pig DNA in the canned goods that was not declared in the ingredients and other accompanying documents, the watchdog said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Rosselkhoznadzor expanded the register of suppliers of animal products from Serbia with the addition of eight enterprises. Three dairy enterprises were granted the right to export their products to Russia. One enterprise was included in the list of meat suppliers and four were included in the list of suppliers of feed and feed additives. The permits went into effect on September 4.
