Meeting between Moldovan authorities, protesters produces no results - protest leader
CHISINAU. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Andrei Nastase, a member of the Moldovan civil platform Dignity and Truth, has described a meeting between a number of protesters and government officials in Chisinau on Tuesday as a "downright mockery."
Taking part in the meeting on the authorities part were Secretary General of the presidential secretariat Ion Paduraru, presidential advisor Vasile Sturza and presidential press secretary Vlad Turcanu, and on the protesters part Great National Assembly Chairman Andrei Nastase and its members Valentin Dolganiuc, Anton Gamurari, Stanislav Pavlovschi, Vasile Mirzenco, Chiril Motpan and some others.
"The meeting did take place, but it didn't produce anything. The authorities pretended that they heard us, but our demands haven't been met. We will be insisting on fulfilling the people's demands," Nastase told journalists following the meeting, which lasted for about one hour.
He also branded President Nicolae Timofti's refusal to resign as blatant.
"He is ignoring our demands. Too bad. His resignation would have started the process of clearing the Moldovan police of mud. I know Nicolae Timofti, he doesn't cling to offices and would have resigned. But his masters, those who made him chief of state, oligarchs and thieves, haven't allowed him to do so," Nastase said.
