Antonov An-2 squadrons participating in Central Military District surprise check

MOSCOW. Sept 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Airborne Forces troops will be airdropped from Antonov An-2 planes as part of the surprise check of combat readiness in the Central Military District, the Russian Defense Ministry press service and information department has said.

"Aircraft crews will airdrop units of the Airborne Forces and perform flights to check the air defenses of formations and units of the Central Military District," says the report seen by Interfax-AVN on Thursday.

This type of aircraft has a reduced radar cross-section, which complicates their detection by radar stations, the report said.

In all, over ten crews of Antonov An-2 aircraft of the Aerospace Defense Forces will participate in the surprise check in the Central Military District, the Defense Ministry said.

The surprise check of combat readiness in the Central Military District involves about 95,000 servicemen, more than 7,000 pieces of weapons and military hardware and about 170 aircraft. The check will end on September 12.
