European Parliament to dispatch monitors to local elections in Ukraine - Rada speaker

KYIV. Sept 10 (Interfax) - The Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament has decided to dispatch a delegation of monitors to local elections in Ukraine scheduled for October 25, Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Chairman Vladimir Hroysman said, adding that the decision was made in reply to his invitation.

"The European Parliament usually doesn't monitor local elections," Hroysman said on Facebook on Thursday.

The Ukrainian speaker also pointed out that the European Parliament had adopted resolutions on Russia at its plenary session in Strasbourg on Thursday, placing special emphasis on the convictions of Estonian security officer Eston Kohver and Ukrainian citizens Oleh Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko by Russian courts.

"These resolutions are yet another indication of the EU institutions' commitment to and solidarity with Ukraine," Hroysman said.
