Pushilin officially elected DPR parliament speaker

DONETSK. Sept 11 (Interfax) - Denis Pushilin has been elected Speaker of the People's Council of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, the DPR parliamentary press service reported on Friday.

"Seventy-six deputies voted in favor of the election of Denis Pushilin as Speaker of the People's Council," the Donetskoye Agentstvo Novostey, or Donetsk News Agency, cited the People's Council statement as saying.

It explained that the draft regulation 'On election of the Speaker of the People's Council of the DPR' was proposed for voting at the initiative of the leader of the Donetsk Republic faction, Deputy Anatoly Koval.

It was reported on September 4 that Andrei Purgin had been dismissed by deputies from the position of DPR People's Council speaker. Denis Pushilin took over as acting speaker of the DPR parliament.
