Sudanese, S. Sudanese foreign ministers make progress in resolving differences in bilateral relations - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 11 (Interfax) - Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour of Sudan and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Benjamin Barnaba of South Sudan signed a joint communique on problems surrounding an inter-Sudanese settlement following bilateral negotiations and a trilateral meeting attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Friday.

"We are delighted to point out that the foreign policy chiefs of Sudan and South Sudan have managed to make significant progress in the way of resolving debatable points in bilateral relations," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement circulated in Moscow on Friday evening.

The two ministers agreed that they would start discussing problematic aspects of the security agreements concluded in Addis Ababa in 2012, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "In this context, the ministers asked Russia to continue providing support to the Sudanese and South Sudanese sides, which organically complements the peacekeeping efforts of the African Union's mediating mechanisms," the ministry said.

"Highly appreciating efforts that Russia is making within the framework of the UN and other international organizations to achieve a definitive peaceful settlement between the two brotherly countries and nations as soon as possible, Ghandour and Barnaba expressed gratitude to the Russian leadership for the opportunity to maintain a productive inter-Sudanese dialogue on the Moscow forum," it said.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and special presidential representative for the Middle East and African countries Mikhail Bogdanov was present at the signature ceremony at the Sudanese and South Sudanese ministers' invitation.
