Russia's policy toward Syria transparent, has no hidden agenda - envoy to NATO

MOSCOW. Sept 11 (Interfax) - Moscow's position on Syria fully complies with international law, says Russia's permanent representative to NATO Alexander Grushko.

"Russia's line in relation to Syria is absolutely understandable, it is transparent to all, and there are no hidden rocks in it. It fully complies with international law norms, and by the way, it fully complies with the Geneva agreements," Grushko said on the Rossiya-24 news TV channel on Friday.

All reasonable policymakers should understand that Islamic State fighters can be conquered only based on broad cooperation, and this is exactly what Russia proposes, he said.

"It is also obvious - and a lot of Western newspapers have written about this - that the Syrian armed forces are the only force capable of opposing ISIS, and therefore it's absolutely clear why the Russian Federation is providing assistance to the Syrian military in this combat," he said.
