Kostroma election officials demand Navalny's explanation over campaign material on his website

MOSCOW. Sept 13 (Interfax) - The Kostroma regional election commission has asked the opposition activist Alexei Navalny to explain why campaign material has been posted on his website, says Ivan Zhdanov, a lawyer from the Anti-Corruption Foundation.

"The election commission received a report from a voter that today, on September 13, 2015, campaign material was posted on the 'Navalny, Final Battle Between Good and Neutrality' website in breach of Article 49 of the federal law that guarantees voter rights to Russian citizens, and Article 95 of the Kostroma Regional Election Code," according to a copy of the report posted on Zhdanov's Twitter account.

Navalny was asked to provide his explanation by 6 p.m. on September 13.

An article titled the "Nationwide Election Day" was in fact posted on Navalny's website, in which the opposition activist claims that "genuine opposition, RPR-Parnas, is taking part in party vote for the first time after many years" in Kostroma Region on Sunday.

The article also calls on voters to go to the polls.

On Sunday voters in Kostroma Region are electing regional parliamentarians and the regional governor.
