Kremlin site comes under massive attack on Nationwide Election Day - Peskov

MOSCOW. Sept 14 (Interfax) - The website of the Russian president came under a massive attack last Sunday, but resisted thanks to its security system, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov has said.

"Yesterday Churov told about the attempts to hack the website of the Central Election Commission. In view of this, you might want to know that somewhere between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sunday a very powerful attack was also carried out on the Russian president's website at the same time. The security systems tackled it well, though it was not easy, the attack was quite powerful," Peskov told journalists on Monday.

He said he has not been informed as to who could be involved in the attack, but expressed his certainty that specialists already know.

"I have yet to receive such information, given that we've been traveling a lot. I am sure the specialists would know," said Peskov when asked whether the attacker was identified.

"There are security systems in case of such hooliganism, and thank goodness, they worked," Peskov said.

The Kremlin website was unavailable for Internet users for a few minutes, then was up and running as usual, eyewitnesses said.
