Electricity production in Russia rises 1.1% to 692 bln kWh in 8M

MOSCOW. Sept 15 (Interfax) - Russia generated 692 billion kWh of electricity in January-August 2015, 1.1% more than in the same period of 2014, the Federal Statistics Service (Rosstat) said in materials.

Nuclear power plants and thermal power plants increased production by 11% and 0.7%, respectively, in the period. NPPs generated 130 billion kWh and TPPs 449 billion kWh. The production of electricity of hydropower plants fell by 7.1% to 113 billion kWh.

In August alone, power generation in Russia increased 1% compared with August 2014 and 1.9% compared with July 2015.

The production of heat fell by 3.6% year-on-year in the 8M to 781 million Gcal. The production of heat by TPPs was 351 million Gcal (-2.8%), boilers - 373 million Gcal (-4.9%) and industrial utilization installations was 51.5 million Gcal (+1%).
