SCO RATS to hold intl anti-terrorism conference in Tashkent in October

TASHKENT. Sept 18 (Interfax) - India and Pakistan have been invited to attend an international conference dedicated to the fight against terrorism and extremism hosted by the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO RATS), a source in the SCO RATS press service told Interfax on Friday.

The conference planned to be held in October will involve officers from law enforcement agencies of SCO members and observer states, he said.

SCO RATS Executive Committee representatives have visited the diplomatic missions of India and Pakistan in Tashkent to deliver invitations to the conference.

The sides exchanged opinions on major regional security affairs, including the growing threat to stability in Central and South Asia coming from international terrorist forces, primarily ISIL and the Taliban, the press service said.

The SCO comprises of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan are observer states. Belarus, Sri Lanka and Turkey have the status of dialogue partners.

The SCO RATS Executive Committee is headquartered in Tashkent.
