Kyiv expects election in DPR to be canceled
KYIV. Sept 18 (Interfax) - Ukraine's presidential administration expects cancelation of the 'pseudo-election' in areas controlled by the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Kostiantyn Yeliseyev said.
"We are still hoping - and we must always remain optimists - that common sense will somehow prevail, at least in this case, and this election will be canceled," Yeliseyev told a briefing conference in Kyiv on Friday.
He also revealed that Kyiv's objective is to create an international coalition in order to push for this election to be canceled. "This a key plan. If it cannot be realized, we will switch over to another one," Yeliseyev said.
Consultations with Ukraine's foreign partners are carried out on a permanent basis in order to clarify measures needed for the election to be canceled, he said.
"It is our understanding that any election, including the local election in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, must be carried out in conformity with the Minsk Agreements under applicable laws of Ukraine, with full observation of OSCE standards," Yeliseyev said.
