Head of Komi Gaizer, republic's Parliament Speaker Kovzel detained - source

SYKTYVKAR. Sept 19 (Interfax) - Law enforcement officials have detained Vyacheslav Gaizer, the head of the Komi Republic, and the republic's Parliament Speaker Igor Kovzel, a source in the law enforcement structures told Interfax.

"Vyacheslav Gaizer was detained in Moscow. He is on vacation and he planned to go abroad. Igor Kovzel was detained in St. Petersburg," the source said.

The source also reported the detention of Konstantin Romadanov (deputy head of Komi), Yevgeny Samoilov (former State Duma deputy representing Komi), and also Pavel Morushchak, who was in charge of the work of the information section in the Komi government.

The source said over sixty investigative actions have now been conducted in several regions of Russia. Investigative actions were conducted in the Komi State Council early in the morning.

People dressed in civilian clothing are currently in the building of the regional administration.
