Transdniestrian President Shevchuk marries former foreign minister Shtanski
TIRASPOL. Sept 19 (Interfax) - Transdniestrian President Yevgeny Shevchuk and former foreign minister Nina Shtanski are getting married in Ribnita in the company of relatives and friends, sources in the Transdniestrian presidential administration told Interfax on Saturday.
The sources said the bride was given away by Kazakh billionaire Talgat Baitaziyev, current director of the Ribnita metallurgical plant.
Shevchuk and Shtanski married in church on Friday, the presidential administration reported on its website. The wedding took place in an Orthodox church in Shevchuk's native village of Stroyentsy, Ribnita district.
Shtanski left her post on Monday. Her deputy Vitaly Ignatyev became acting foreign minister and head of the Transdniestrian delegation in the negotiations. Shtanski's upcoming resignation was announced by Shevchuk at a press conference on August 31.
"Nina Shtanski will cease being foreign minister of Transdniestria in the nearest future. She will now be performing the duties of the president's wife," Shevchuk said.
