SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure backs measures to eliminate group led by General Nazarzoda in Tajikistan

TASHKENT. Sept 21 (Interfax) - The executive committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has expressed its support for the anti-terrorist activities in Tajikistan, the press service for the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure said in a report released on Monday.

"The executive committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization expresses its support for the anti-terrorist measures taken by the relevant Tajik authorities to maintain peace and stability in the country and states its readiness to strengthen the coordination of interaction between the relevant bodies of the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the fight against the forces of the 'three evils': terrorism, separatism and extremism," the report says.

On Wednesday, the Tajik Interior ministry and State National Security Committee reported on the elimination of Tajikistan's former deputy defense minister Abdukhalim Nazarzoda in a special operation followed the September 4 armed attacks carried out by the general's supporters. According to the most recent information, 27 members of the terrorist group were eliminated and 139 were detained in the special operation.

The SCO comprises Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan hold observer status in the organization. Belarus, Sri Lanka and Turkey have dialogue partner status.

The executive committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is based in Tashkent.
