Japanese foreign minister says he raised "territorial issue" with Lavrov

MOSCOW. Sept 21 (Interfax) - Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida has explained Japan's position on the so-called Northern Territories and expressed regret over the situation around them.

"For my part, I raised the territorial issue, in particular, I explained clearly Japan's position in light of recent unilateral actions and remarks by Russia over the four northern islands," Kishida told a press conference on Monday.

"I expressed my utter regret over the previous issue," the minister said.

"We have agreed that, following today's discussion between the foreign ministers, our deputy foreign ministers will hold talks over a peace agreement this October," the Japanese foreign minister said.
