Regulator expects liberalization of locomotive market with arrival of new RZD chief
MOSCOW. Sept 23 (Interfax) - The new head of Russian Railways (RZD) , Oleg Belozerov will tackle the liberalization of the locomotive services market, the head of the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS), Igor Artemyev believes.
"The views of the new [RZD] head, whom I've known for many, many years, are closer to my own. He is more oriented toward the private sector. One can expect that we will soon see locomotive services in the hands of private companies," Artemyev said in an interview with business daily Vedomosti published on Wednesday.
He said Belozerov's predecessor, Vladimir Yakunin "did what he thought was needed for the safety of railways and the interests of Russia."
"But [Yakunin's] views differ significantly from my own," Artemyev said.
