Syrian opposition negotiations Astana II will be held in early October - Kazakh Foreign Ministry
ASTANA. Sept 23 (Interfax) - The next Syrian opposition consultations will be held in Astana in early October, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry told Interfax.
"The administration of Kazakhstan has received an appropriate request from representatives of the Syrian opposition groups. A positive decision was made on it and Astana will indeed provide a venue for such negotiations, bearing in mind our serious concerns about the situation in Syria and our sincere hope that such meetings will help resolve this bloody conflict, which has lasted for many years," the Foreign Ministry press service said.
The first negotiations between representatives of the Syrian opposition were held in Astana on May 25-27, 2015.
The negotiations involved some 30 representatives of the moderate Syrian opposition: the Movement for a Pluralistic Society, the National Democratic Front, the National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change, the Coalition of Forces for Peaceful Change, representatives of ethnic groups of Kurds, Turkmens, Assyrians and other groups, and also academics and civil society experts.
