Russian cruiser Varyag and Tver sub hold live-fire exercises in Kamchatka
VLADIVOSTOK. Sept 24 (Interfax) - Military units stationed in the north-east of Russia have conducted missile-firing exercises together with ships and submarines in the Avacha Bay as part of the Russian Pacific Fleet's summer combat training, spokesman for Russia's Eastern Military District Capitan 1st Rank Roman Martov told Interfax.
"An assault group of small-sized missile carrying ships guarding this water district, led by the Pacific Fleet's flagship, the guard missile carrying cruiser Varyag, and the nuclear-powered submarine Tver, and [equipped] with Rubezh and Redut coast-based systems successfully accomplished the task of destroying [simulated] aerial and surface targets," Martov said.
The simulated targets were decommissioned naval vessels and missile targets launched by crews operating the coast-based systems.
The exercises involved more than 40 units of military and special-purpose hardware, over ten surface ships, submarines and support vessels, as well as ten airplanes and helicopters and more than 2,000 servicemen.
The results of the missile-firing exercises were recorded by monitoring systems, including unmanned aerial vehicles.
