Russian Foreign Ministry condemns arrest of Russian journalist on Ukrainian border
MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has described the arrest of NTV correspondent Yekaterina Voronina on the border as yet another stage in the Ukrainian authorities' fight against alternative sources of information.
"The arrest of Russian journalist Voronina on the Russian-Ukrainian border is yet another element in the Ukrainian authorities' crackdown on dissidence," the ministry's commissioner for human rights, democracy and rule of law Konstantin Dolgov wrote on his Twitter page on Friday.
He also reproached OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovic for the lack of response to such moves by the Ukrainian authorities.
"This confirms: there is a lack of response on the part of international human rights organizations, including OSCE representatives on freedom of the media, to steps by the Ukrainian authorities," Dolgov wrote.
The NTV channel earlier reported that its correspondent had been held on Ukraine's border with Crimea. The journalist was questioned for a total of nine hours, then released without charges.
