Putin: Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and U.S. were notified about formation of antiterrorist information center in Baghdad

MOSCOW. Sept 27 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin has announced that Russia notified the leaders of several countries, including the United States, about plans of setting up a coordinating structure to combat terrorism in the Middle East.

"In my view, rendering military support to unlawful structures does not meet the principles of modern international law or the UN Charter. We support solely lawful government structures. In this context we also offer cooperation to countries in the region and try to create some coordinating structure," Putin said in an interview to U.S. journalist Charlie Rose for CBS and PBS TV channels ahead of his participation in the UN General Assembly.

He said he "personally informed the president of Turkey, the King of Jordan, Saudi Arabia" about it. "We also notified the USA and [U.S. Secretary of State John] Mr. Kerry had a detailed conversation to this end with our Foreign Minister Mr. Lavrov. Well, our military also discus the subject between themselves," Putin said.

"We will be glad, if we find a common platform for joint actions against terrorists," he stressed.

On Saturday a military diplomatic source in Moscow announced that Russia, Syria, Iraq and Iran agreed to create an information center in Baghdad for organizing the fight against the Islamic State. The main task of the center is to collect, process, sum up and analyze current information about the situation in the Middle East, mostly for fighting ISIS, the source said. He added that the information would be rapidly delivered to general staffs of the four countries.
