Medvedev calls for Internet regulation

SKOLKOVO. Sept 28 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has said the world wide web needs to be regulated but that it does not mean controlling it in a primitive way.

There are two points of view when it comes to web regulation: the first one is not to interfere with the Internet space and let the web develop according to its laws; the second view consists of certain elements needing state regulation, the prime minister said.

"As someone who embodies state power here, I am, of course, closer to the second point of view. That does not mean we must try to control the web in a primitive way. But the Internet already has a legal framework," Medvedev said during an online conference entitled "Technological revolution. Russia's agenda."
