Information center in Baghdad tasked to coordinate anti-ISIL fight is Russian initiative - Syrian diplomat
MOSCOW. Sept 29 (Interfax) - The information center which has been created in Baghdad to coordinate the fight against ISIL (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) is a Russian initiative, Syrian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar al-Jafari has said.
The Syrian diplomat told the Russia Today television channel on Tuesday that the center was essential for fighting terrorism and the Russian initiative joined by Iran, Syria and Iraq was highly appropriate as it contributed to the idea of an international anti-terrorism coalition.
If the West, Turkey, Jordan, Israel and some other countries had not been distracting the Syrian army on over 600 fronts, the army would have destroyed ISIL on its own, without the help of the international coalition, within three months rather than 30 years as suggested by U.S. President Barack Obama, al-Jafari said.
The diplomat said that Arab, Western, Russian, Chinese and international observers who had been closely monitoring the events should think outside the absurd thinking that was being pushed on them.
The real ISIL is those who are creating, funding, arming and defending ISIL, he said, adding that it was necessary to give a precise definition to the anti-terrorism front and to distinguish between those who are against terrorism and those who are creating it, the Syrian envoy noted.
