Russian, Italian parliamentarians agree to cooperation on counter-terrorism, Syria, Libya

MOSCOW. Sept 30 (Interfax) - Senior members of the Russian State Duma and Italian parliament have signed a joint communique on cooperation aimed at resolving important problems, including those related to the fight against terrorism, State Duma First Deputy Speaker Alexander Zhukov (United Russia) has said.

"We signed a joint communique which stresses the need for a joint fight against terrorism, to create a broad international coalition in the fight against the main terror threat - Islamic State," Zhukov told reporters after a meeting held by the Grand Russian-Italian Inter-Parliamentary Commission in Moscow on Wednesday.

The document also stressed the need to find a political solution to the crises in Syria and Libya, said the senior Duma member.

The joint communique also stipulates cooperation in the field of migration issues, and migration problems need to be dealt with not only by helping migrants, but primarily by eradicating the causes which led to such mass migration as is now being seen in Europe, Zhukov said.

In addition, the commission discussed further cooperation in tourism and the cultural sphere, as well as inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, he said.
