Claims of Russian planes bombing Syrian opposition are groundless and politically motivated - Russian senator
MOSCOW. Oct 1 (Interfax) - Claims by some Western media outlets that the Russian Air Force is allegedly carrying out strikes against the Syrian opposition represent an unfounded campaign of resistance to Russia, Konstantin Kosachyov, who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament, told Interfax on Thursday.
"It is absolutely obvious that it is an information campaign of resistance - there is no evidence able to prove these groundless claims that are being spread today," he said.
Evidence proving that Russian Air Force planes conducted strikes against Islamic State (ISIL) targets in Syria has been provided by Russia's Defense Ministry in full, he said.
"Consequently, let this [their groundless claims] remain on the conscience of those who are branding us, but it is absolutely certain that these allegations lack any content and any meaning," Kosachyov said.
