Success in combating terrorism in Mideast, N. Africa possible if efforts are collective - Russian diplomat
MOSCOW. Oct 1 (Interfax) - Efforts against extremism in the Middle East and in North Africa can be successful only if they are collective, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said on Thursday.
"We are especially alarmed by the continued deterioration of the situation in the region of the Middle East and North Africa, namely the rapid spread of terrorism and extremism, including the so-called Islamic State's actions," Morgulov said at the 4th International Parliamentary Forum in Moscow on Thursday.
"It is absolutely obvious in this context that efficient and sustainable answers to these problems can only be found collectively," he added.
This objective could be attained, among other things, through efforts made "in the parliamentary dimension," he said.
"We presume that efforts within the framework of international parliamentary dimensions should help promote a positive and integrated agenda oriented towards the future," Morgulov said.
